colophon

how this site is built, served and typeset. the person is on the about page.

the pages

plain html and css, written by hand. no framework, no build step, no analytics and no advertising.

the fonts are files on this site: newsreader for the reading, inter for the small print and jetbrains mono for the numbers. your browser asks no font provider for them.

light or dark follows your system until the button in the header says otherwise. that choice is one word in your browser's local storage, and it goes nowhere else.

a content security policy on every page lists the only hosts a page may contact. the privacy page names them and what each one is for.

the mark in the corner is a step line in cobalt on paper, the shape of a base-fee chart.

live numbers

the front page, the data page and the scripts page fetch their numbers from public apis in your browser as you open them. nothing passes through a server of mine, and a switch on the privacy page turns the requests off.

the methods page gives the endpoint and the formula behind each figure. the moving line behind the front page is the last 256 blocks, drawn from one call to a public node every twelve seconds while the tab is open.

hosting and source

cloudflare pages serves the files. the source is a public repository on github, and i sign every commit with my key; the verify page says how to check one.

every note carries an opentimestamps proof next to it, so you can check that its bytes existed on the day it says.

changes are listed in the changelog, with what moved and why.

the bull

the bull beside the column on wide screens is a detail of paulus potter's the bull, painted in 1647 and hanging in the mauritshuis in the hague. the image is in the public domain.

no market symbolism. i just like his face.
